Grain Millers, Inc. is a leading provider of whole grain ingredients used in cereals, breads, bars, snacks and many other food products. We are looking for a hands-on Lab Manager to work collaboratively with the QA team, other interdisciplinary departments, as well as a diverse group of external customers. We are currently seeking an individual who enjoys problem solving, presenting solutions, mentoring team members, and is detail-oriented for this exciting opportunity as a full-time Lab Manager.
Job responsibilities include:
The Lab Manager is responsible for managing the QA techs and lab operations. Duties include managing the lab, ensuring GLP's are implemented, prioritizing and scheduling the lab work, communicating changes and managing communication with customers. The role ensures all product specifications are met and testing is completed prior to shipment and maintains HACCP programs within the lab and production areas. The individual supports and upholds all policies and procedures including safety, quality and regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Performs supervisory duties including but not limited to: interviewing, hiring, training/on-boarding, scheduling, planning/assigning/directing work and evaluating performance.
- Directs team members engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
- Supporting Quality Assurance programs including: hold program, traceability exercises; product protection and food safety programs; lab procedures; process evaluations; process specifications and standards; product functionality evaluations; sanitation programs and effectiveness; HACCP and GMP programs; production labeling; product storage and distribution; internal and external audits, and environmental microbiological monitoring programs.
- Responsible for supporting the plant operations in the area of Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Food Safety.
- Ensure all required tests are completed and meet customer specifications.
Essential Requirements:
- High school diploma, or two years of post-high school education. Bachelor's degree desired.
- Prefer one to two years of supervisory experience.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and provide solutions.
- Working knowledge of good lab practices, GMP's, food safety and sanitation practices.
- Possess strong communication, analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail and good time management.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Possess strong collaboration, facilitation and leadership skills, as well as demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with all levels of employees as well as internal and external customers.
- Strong computer (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and data handling skills.
